Client: The Broadmoor
Contract: Cloud Camp Road Refurbishment
Contract Period: October 2012 – May 2013
Contract Value: $353,000
Description of Work: Upgrade of an exiting 3.7 mile service road from the Will Rogers Shrine to Broadmoor’s Cloud Camp Resort at the summit of Cheyenne Mountain. This road was originally built by Spencer Penrose between 1923-1925 to access the original resort. Manufactured Stone retaining walls were constructed into the mountain slope requiring grading and shoring prior to installation of new material. Grading and reshaping of road and culverts will allow access for service, emergency and hotel vehicles. Boulders varying in size up to 40 tons were relocated to allow for road access and slope stabilization. Metal netting was installed with vertical I-beams encased in concrete or imbedded into rock to prevent vehicles from nearing the mountain edge.
