Description of Work: The relocation and installation of the No. 5 Cog Railway Steam Engine. This historic Engine was one of seven locomotives built from 1890-1906 by Baldwin Locomotive works in Philadelphia, PA with No. 5 built in 1901. No. 5 ran faithfully from 1901-1954 beginning at the base of Manitou Springs traveling 8.9 miles to the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,110. The foundation consisted of 6” micropiles 40’ deep, 2.5 tons of rebar foundation walls and rebar cage for the sloped concrete platform. 48 tons of concrete and slurry support the 32 ton Locomotive Engine. The engine is located in front of the Summit Restaurant. All construction was completed while enabling the restaurant to fully function.
